Ensuring Access To Electricy in Refugee Camps
After more than six months of conflict in the Gaza Strip, around 2 million people have been forced to flee their homes, becoming internally displaced people.
Estimates from the Camp Coordination and Management sector indicate an average displacement rate of 350,000 people per month, with many vulnerable individuals seeking safer refuge in camps scattered throughout the southern Gaza Strip.
In these camps, nighttime means complete darkness due to the total destruction of the power grid. Rising diesel costs for generators, the only source of electricity in the camps, lead to reduced or complete suspension of electricity services. This situation increases exposure to theft and violence due to the lack of lighting both inside and outside the camps.
The project to install street lighting in refugee camps in the Al-Mawasi Al-Qarara area benefits 10,000 people, including women, children, and the elderly. This humanitarian assistance project aims to provide a sustainable, immediate solution to a primary need among highly vulnerable people.
